Project context

This is the final project from the Expression Session course offered through School of Motion. Design provided, created by Carly Cerquone.

The Brief

The deliverable was a :10 animation of a fictional user interface (FUI). The goal was to do as much as possible with code, creating a maximally modular and easy to use project that could be modified without relying on the manipulation of keyframes.

Concept & Design

The concept for this project was to create randomized motion patterns for each area of the FUI.

Research

The bulk of the research for this project consisted in planning different approaches to coding the interactivity between various elements of the FUI. Some of these methods were more straightforward than others, e.g., setting up a simple rig to allow variables throughout the FUI to display information in either metric or imperial units. More involved approaches required creating data visualization modules that responded to different database input (i.e., JSON files).

Animation

The goal for this animation was to build a fully functioning FUI driven by code. The beautiful designs provided for this project were a delight to work with, and in the end the project came together without the use of a single keyframe. This project pushed me to further my coding abilities in the context of animation, and I am excited to continue to incorporate these skills in further work.
